My eMac internal monitor broke so I removed the CRT and connected an external LCD screen. My question is, do I need any of the CRT electronics to power the external LCD? If not, I would like to remove all the CRT electronics and cut the plastic case down to the bottom of where the CRT was visable just above the CD and speakers. In other words, will the external LCD work off the mother board video output or does it need the CRT electronics. Sorry for so many words. Any help appreciated.

You should be able to remove most of it. Just make sure you leave the power supply and analogue video boards in place.

Also make sure your CRT is properly discharged when you work on it. Getting zapped by one can hurt. Or even kill.
