firewire drive won't mount g5dp1.8

i'm at a loss
i have tried everything reset pmu, reset pram, replaced battery
i have a gtech 160 gb when i connect it to thr g5 the led light up
it stares to fliker like it loading then nothing( i can connect it my g4 pb is it mounts fine)
is there a way to test the port?
is this a comon problem??

Take the drive to another computer and test it. If it works, then your PMG5's FW port is not working.
If you have another FW drive, test it elsewhere and make sure it is working, then connect it to the PMG5 and see if it works.

Under the preferences of the "Finder" under "general" headings "Show these items on the Desktop" is "External disks" checked or not? If it is unchecked, then naturally the Firewire disk will not appear on the desktop but will appear on the side panel of an open Finder window. If this does not help, then the Firewire plug may be a problem. You do not mention the model of your G5, but there is usually more than one Firewire port. Have you tried an other port? You did not mention if your GTech Drive has a USB port and if so, have you tried connecting via it?

Also, try launching Disk Utility (Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility.app) and see if doing so forces the drive to mount. I've had occasions where that worked.
