Hi everyone ..
This is my first post here.

I have a white iMac 24 inch
2.16 Ghz - Intel Core 2 duo
Superdrive

It has started acting temperamental recently.
On some days it refuses to switch on
and on some days it starts up and works just fine.

My mac service centre has checked the following
1. Power supply - checked & replaced
2. Graphic Card - checked

Now they state the only issue can be in the logic card
They cannot repair it , they want to replace it
for $ 1,000

I think its a absurd price to pay for repairs of a 4 year old computer.

Can anyone suggest a good place where I can mail my logic board for repairs ?

Thanks in advance.

I've never thought about the possibility of logic board repair. There are some companies that claim to do it.

Big Mac is right: I also haven't heard of logic board repairs, they are simply replaced. And having mainboards isn't cheap, unfortunately. If I were you, I'd put the old one on ebay (of course with full disclosure), many people need the parts (enclosure, display, etc.). Then get a new one. Sorry.

Those were my thoughts, but I didn't feel like breaking the bad news. Some shops claim they can repair boards, though. Here's one I found: Computer Repair Services

What they can do is replace broken capacitors, which is a common cause of failure over time, but it is not guaranteed that that is your problem.

Mainboards can be repaired by the correct people.

The few motherboards I send off to Gigabyte for repair all come back fixed - the same ones that I sent off. If they had bad caps, I would just fix them myself.

That is not good news.

I got in touch with Doubleclickittofixit.com Laptop Motherboard Reflow Repair Service
This is what he charges.

Do you think reflow and capacitor recapping will solve my problem.

James Howell
7472 Nashville Street
Ringgold, GA 30736

As before, the service is $125.00 if you send the entire system for reflow or capacitor recapping, and $75.00 if you send the motherboard alone for reflow or capacitor recapping.

Are those Gigabyte boards to begin with, though? I can understand them being able to repair their own boards, but Apple often uses custom circuits that would be hard to source replacements for.

Yes, they are Gigabyte boards to begin with, hence my comment about the correct people being able to fix them.

If there are custom ICs on the boards, then it would be hard to source replacements outside of Apple.
