I have an iMac G5 running os 10.4.11.

I have a disc that has some AVI files on it that I want to be able to play using VLC.

Problem is that the computer automatically ejects the disc before I can do anything with it.

I want the computer to not automatically eject the disc so that I can use the VLC player to play the files on it.

How do I tell the computer to not eject the disc?

It ejects the disc because it can't read the disc directory. This is commonly caused by the disc being too dirty to read, so try wiping it off first while checking for scratches.

Does the DVD read other discs OK?

As optical drives get older, they start having trouble reading discs. Usually, they fail on burned discs first, while commercial discs continue to work. Presently the commercial discs start having trouble with accessing the 2nd layer. Eventually, the drive fails on all media.

Like P says, try a few other discs in the drive. Maybe it's just the one disc.
