Have stupidly put a SD disk into the DVD slot on my iMac - how can I get it out?

Horrible, horrible design. I did the same the first time I tried to use it.

Keep fishing with a paperclip.

Pick up the iMac, tilt it to the side, try shaking it out. When I did the same thing (get the SD card stuck in there), I took a piece of card stock (such as shoebox), cut it in the shape of 'J' (about an inch wide) and hooked the card out by sliding the cardboard hook from the side.

Left trying to sort this out until effects of Xmas excess had gone and the tried first the paper clip method without any success; then to Vasic's suggestion with cardboard "J's" which worked very quickly. Sure clip would work as well but perhaps SD card was inserted too far.

Anyway - many thanks for suggestions!

I agree, dump design; the slot should've been in the front, not the side.

And disturb the nice front? Blasphemy!

They could have put it on the other side, or far above or beyond the optical drive.
The low-end Mac Pro is the most overpriced Mac since the IIvx

"Form over function", I guess.

At least with the plastic iMacs you could easily 'see' where the slot was located; not so with the Alu ones.
