Altech Lansing Speakers and Bass Box, No sound

I just got an IMac 27inch and have it set up. I also have a set of Altec Lansing speakers and the Bass box from my PC. When I plug the speakers into he speaker jack on the back of the Mac it still plays sound from the internal speakers and nothing from the external.

The speakers are powered up but no sound comes from them.

Any ideas?

Good GAWD I can't believe it. I wasn't letting it stay connected long enough to switch.
I'd plug it into one hole and no sound so I'd pull it and plug into the other. nothing..

But I plugged it in and let it sit for a few seconds while I had ITunes running.. now I have sound.

Sorry for being such an impatient dweeb! LOL
