We have an iMac G5. We have been using an apple wireless mouse for a long time, suddenly it is very erratic. Seems to cut in and out whenever, when waking up from sleep it takes a long time to detect it etc. (Batteries are good.) We shut it down and plugged in the USB mouse and can't get it to detect that at all. Thoughts?

We would be happy to just go back to the USB mouse if it worked consistently, blue tooth is fine but not worth the hassle if it is not working well.

Did you try the mouse in multiple USB ports? Does the laser of the mouse light up when you plug it in? (Assuming it has one you can see.) Can you test any other usb devices to verify your USB ports work?

Yes to all. Tried other USB ports, laser works and can be seen, and USB ports support other things (printer, scanner, thumb-drives) with no issues.

Does System Profiler show that the mouse is connected to a USB port?

In any case, I'd try another restart-let it sit for a few minutes before you try to turn it back on again. And see if there's another USB mouse handy that you can test with the computer. Maybe there's a problem with the mouse you tried...

Finally, do you have anything "interesting" in the mouse preferences pane? It could be that you simply have some sort of "ignore wired mice" setting somewhere...

Alt-boot it into startup manager and see if the mouse works.
