in my powermac g5 (its a 2GHz Dual-Core model with PCI-E and DDR2) my graphics card was idling around 57c. so i took the heatsink off, cleaned the GPU and heatsink, applied fresh arctic silver, and reapplied the heat sink. it now idles around 60c. i played unreal tournament 2004 for about an hour this morning, and when i went back to the desktop and opened the dashboard, iStat said it was at 75c! (as of right now, it is sitting at 59c). am I just going through the burn-in period and being overly paranoid? (i dont trust fanless cooling).

and one more thing.. im running 4GB of DDR2-800MHz in this. (2x2GB). i know the slots call for 533MHz or so. am i hurting anything by running 800MHz, or is the memory just underclocking itself to comply with the memory controller?

speaking of temps... are these normal operating temps for this model G5?

Those temps are pretty normal. I don't think there is anything to be worried about.

The memory will be running at the slower speed of the bus. RAM sticks typically run at all the standard clock speeds up to their rated speed. The stick firmware includes the slower speed timings as valid, which the computer will accept.

okay, so im hurting absolutely nothing by running 800mhz in a 533 bus, right? i did notice when i had the stock memory in along with the 800mhz memory, the system did suffer a bit of a performance drop... which went away when the stock memory came out. guess i know better now than to mix different speeds hah
