when will Apple release new MacPro's with thunderbolt.
I don't like that apple's pro users are the only ones who haven't seen a thunderbolt update yet.

What makes you think Apple doesn't know this, or that "telling them" will somehow accelerate the development of new chipset architecture for the next series?

When there is a new CPU to put in them. The Xeon E5 CPUs (Sandy Bridge-EP) are pencilled in for Q4 this year.

Makes perfect sense to me. Thunderbolt is in essence an external PCIe slot. The MP is the only computer that has regular, internal PCIe slots, and so is the one that least needs Thunderbolt.

On the other hand Apple no longer makes a display compatible with its flagship pro hardware. Surely that can't last?

The new displays on the Apple Store say a Mac with Thunderbolt is required so thats what I assume.

Thinking about it, how is Thunderbolt going to work on the Mac Pro anyway?

Surely its going to have to be built into/through the graphics card in order to leverage the GPU for your display(s).
Might explain its absence thus far. Also might mean it will eventually show up in a form that can be added to current/legacy Mac Pros.

This appears to be the case, which rules out its use for any Mac older than the current generation I believe.

I can guarantee Thunderbolt won't work on my 1st Gen (1,1) MacPro. Nothing else has so why would this. I curse you Apple! Now where's the angry-person-shaking-his-fist-in-the-air-maniacally-emoticon when you need one?

I guess they figure anyone who's using a macpro either already has a monitor or is delaying their purchase till the next macpros come out anyway. (Says the guy using an original Cinema Display with his Mac Pro)
