Hi guys,
I am looking at purchase the new Macmini. As a Mac fan, I love everything Apple produces, but it is somewhat over priced with the hardware. To increase the RAM from 4GB to 8GB is $240 Australian dollars in Apple store, yet 2 X 4GB RAM on Ebay is generally below $100. However, it is not very clear on Apple's website in the detail of the particular specification of its RAM, all I know is that the RAM is 1333MHz DDR3 memory. Does anyone have know bit more about the details of the RAM?
In addition, can I purchase a SSD hard drive separately on Ebay and install into the computer on a later date just like what I've done with the Macmini?
Thank you everyone.

It uses fairly ordinary 1333MHz SO-DIMMS.
You should be able to use an off the shel SSD if you are not afraid of taking it to bits to install it.

Thank you, however, there appears to be several types of 1333MHz RAMs around, particular the size of the actual RAM, some looks longer than others.

SO-DIMMS should all be the same size at this speed. Put simply you want the shorter ones.

Any DDR3 laptop RAM is going to work. It doesn't have to be Apple-certified; it doesn't have to be specifically made for an iMac. The clock speed is limited by the FSB on the machine itself; so faster RAM will underclock and slower RAM just won't run quite as fast. The difference will be negligible. If you're looking on eBay for Apple RAM, don't waste your time. You want to buy RAM that was sold as third-party memory (e.g. not pulled from a branded computer), because it'll come with a lifetime warranty. Apple RAM only has a one-year warranty (or three-year if you pay for AppleCare on the machine it's installed in). The same goes for RAM pulled from Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.
