I just replaced the RAID card in my early 2008 Mac Pro. The card is the Apple RAID card variety from that time. The drives are all fine, but the system wouldn't boot. So I booted from the Snow Leopard CD. While booted from the install disc, in the RAID Utility, I am able to see all 4 drives in the 4 internal bays, but the RAID 5 array that they were prior is not being recognized by the new card, which is also an Apple RAID card (same type I'm replacing). How can I get it to recognize the set? I tried creating a new one, but it warned me that an existing one was already on there and all my data would be erased, so naturally, I cancelled out.

I would have expected it to just pick up the set. You'll have to put the old one back in and backup your data before building a new RAID set.
MacBook 2.0GHz CD; MacBook Pro 15" 2.4GHz Late '08; PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 1GHz; 3x Xserve G4 1GHz; Mac Mini 2GHz; Big pile of broken and working bits;

Even if the card is the same model, you created the RAID on the old card. Use the old one to backup data. Even if the RAID 5 has the same algorithm and the card is the same model, usually RAID settings can be recognised only by the hardware (or software) that built them.
