Hey guys,

My Mac Pro has 1 Radeon HD X1900 XT 512mb graphics card. As I was installing another hard drive one time, I noticed that there were several other PCI express slots. Would it be possible to buy an identical graphics card to the one I have now, and run in a Crossfire setup? I'm not even sure what to do, even if I did get another card. Would I just install it inside the tower, then plug everything back in and reboot?

Thanks for the help.

Crossfire is not supported on Mac OS X, so no.
The low-end Mac Pro is the most overpriced Mac since the IIvx

That doesn't seem right; if you go to the Apple.com store, and you customize a new Mac Pro, you have the options of having 1 ATI Radeon HD 5770 , 2 ATI Radeon HD 5770s, or 1 ATI Radeon HD 5870.
Is the 2 5570s option some sort of Apple version of Crossfire?

No, it is two graphics cards driving two different displays.

According to Barefeats.com, the ATI Radeon 4870 is nearly as fast as the 5770 in most benchmarks (in the 2006 MacPro) and seems like a better deal...where can it be purchased as Apple doesn't have it listed on their site?

BTW, OWC says the 5870 will not work with the 2006 MacPro but BareFeats says otherwise.

The 5870 and 5770 are the same generation so if one works the other should.
MacBook 2.0GHz CD; MacBook Pro 15" 2.4GHz Late '08; PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 1GHz; 3x Xserve G4 1GHz; Mac Mini 2GHz; Big pile of broken and working bits;

I think it took an OS update to get the driver out for the 5870 to work. We're talking Apple here so nothing to be assumed
