I have 5 year old iMac 17" Core 2 Duo, that I want to add an SSD drive to. Sadly, I am stuck decisding which size SSD to add. OCZ does a make 3.5 SSD drive, but a lot of reviews have had a lot of issues with the drive failing. The lat thing I would ever want would be to replace the hard drive with an SSD, and have it fail on me.

Alliteratively, I was thinking about going with a Samsung SSD drive (Samsung also offers this SSD drive with an included 2.5 to 3.5 adapter).

So will a 2.5 SSD drive in adapter be secure enough; or should I just take my chances and go witht he 3.5 OCZ drive?

There is no reason you can't use a 2.5" SSD with a bracket. Keeping them tightly in place is, if anything less important for SSDs since the don't generate their own vibrations and they are less susceptible to being moved or vibrated themselves.
Thats not to say you should leave it dangling. I would hunt for a bracket on eBay.

Many OCZ units even come with brackets for this purpose.
MacBook 2.0GHz CD; MacBook Pro 15" 2.4GHz Late '08; PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 1GHz; 3x Xserve G4 1GHz; Mac Mini 2GHz; Big pile of broken and working bits;
