Can someone help me out with the following annoyance?
Every single time that my iMac wakes from the sleep mode, I lose my internet connection.
I'm automatically presented with the Network Diagnostics window when this happens and as soon as I select my Network name from the list, the connection is immediately restored.
But why is the connection lost every time the iMac shuts down?
Cheers
John

Is it a WifI connection? Then it would do this since it turns off the wifi card. There's an option to automatically connect to known networks that will stop you from having to pick it every time.

I have one network where this does not work since Lion. It has a visible SSID, and readily shows up in the Airport menu.
I've deleted and re-added the network, but I still have to connect manually every time (it remembers the password, though).
All other networks work just fine and connect automatically after waking up.

Go old school and delete the preference file? (No I don't know which one.)

For future reference, if you need help quickly an accurate thread title helps. "Constantly conking out" is as vague as they get. Hope you get some help but you're not drawing the right crowd without a good title.

Hey thanks very much for the tip Blaze. It is indeed a WiFi connection. So following your excellent advice I went to Systems Preferences - Network and sure enough there, with the headings Status, Network Name, there is a checkbox for - Ask To Join New Networks - which was NOT checked. I assume that this is what you were referring to. Correct? Well, of course now I have checked the box and this should solve the problem. Thanks for helping out with this vexing issue. And for the other respondents to my note, sorry, I will target my title more closely to the topic next time.
Cheers
John
