My phone says it's connected to my iMac and ready to transfer photos, then phone says it "failed to send" the photo.

Where is my problem? Three year old iMac? Or new phone?

Make sure your OS software is up to date on the phone and on the iMac.

Are you transferring from phone to iMac using iMac to control transfer or the phone.

Using Bluetooth ?

I transfer photo's from phone (basic phone) to iMac controlling from iMac, once paired.

No problems.

(You don't mention iPhone, so assuming a normal phone)

iMac Intel Core i5, 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB 21.5" Monitor 10.8.3.
iMac 17" 2.0ghz Intel Core 2 Duo w 3gb memory (White one) 10.6.8.
Internal 500gb / 8x external HDD's 250GB - 3TB (4x Time Machine)

Yeah, it's a "normal" phone. An LG430G to be specific. I'm using Bluetooth. Controlling from phone. How would I do it controlling from computer?

Have you enabled Bluetooth sharing? It's in System Preferences -> Sharing. You probably want to select "Accept & Save".
The current Mac Pro is the most out-of-date Mac since the Macintosh Portable
