keyboard not working on login

I'm running Leopard on an eMac, and I can't type in the password on login - the mouse works fine. I managed to boot up in safe mode by holding down shift, so I know the keyboard works... any ideas?

It's happened to me a couple times too (w/ Apple's flat aluminum keyboard). Unplug/replug seems to fix but it's weird.
