I am really angry at Motorola, IBM and Apple. I have read that MOT is currently trying to boost the number of operations a G4 can perform at the same clock speed. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE???

Intel's P3 is at 1gHz, ank likewise for the AMD chip. I don't care how fast the G4 is, I just hate hearing things like "half as fast" becuase of the G4's pathetic clock speed. Doesn't Apple/MOT/IBM realize that clock speed is important? Speed is important as well, but 500mHz? I mean come on! That was the top of line last year. The G4 really needs to clock in at at least 700mHz. When a person who knows little or nothing about computers goes to buy a PC, what do they see? 500mHz Mac or 1000mHz PC. Of course Mac users know that the G4 is slightly faster overall (and much faster at certain operstions), but does the average person?

I am also really tired of having to explain to my PC friends that while their 800mHz PC may sound faster than my 450mHz G4, it really isn't. Look at the eOne. It has something like a 466mHz Celeron. I know that Celerons are crappy, but still - the iMac was at 333 mHz when that was introduced.

Come on Apple/MOT/IBM, get it together!!!

The megaHz issue is a moot one. When I was preparing to purchase my computer the speed was a concern of mine, so I researched the situation. Basically there's a meltdown situation with high Mhz. Intel is heading straight into it while Motorola is trying to solve it . Unfortunatly us Mac enthusiasts are stuck in the middle of the experiment. My beef with the G4 is the dependence on optimized software. It's basically moving at the speed of the 400Mhz G3. If my favourite app-Painter- doesn't get optimized I'm pretty much stuck. Personally I'm not planning any upgrade until the G5 or until a 800-900 Mhz G3 appears. But the big processor push seems to be towards the 64- bit architecture. Intel is creeping up with that one but if the reports are straight the G5 will make any 32-bit app rip.
