Probably it needs a good cleaning, but that's hard to do with Apples recent keyboards.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Up until a month ago, I had an Apple Extended USB keyboard model that I could clean, including the removal of and cleaning of keys. Hopefully, the op did not spill anything on it, and that is is a model that one can clean.

I did replace it with Apple's newest keyboard, model MB110LL/B (costs $49.99 + tax at Best Buy), and while it is an extended keyboard, and the keys feel good to the touch, it would be a real challenge (in fact, looks just about impossible) to try and clean the inside.

thank you. before my post I carefully popped up the plastic 'H' and 'J'

( curiously these keys are side by side and did my best to clean them. after all I have a long haired cat that like to sleep by the keyboard )

there did not seem to be any smootz there and did not good.

then a bit later it stopped happening

h h h j j j

but many thanks !

Sounds good! Hope it was just a "quirk"! It might not be a bad idea to clean the entire inside of the keyboard (those areas you can get to). Yeah, it might be a bit of work, but it can only help!

Here's a thing.

If you spill stuff into your keyboard (USB keyboard only!!) and you have nothing to loose I always get customers to put it in the top rack of the dishwasher and run a cycle without any detergent etc.

Leave the keyboard to dry thoroughly.

This often works for sticky spills and for dislodging dirt etc. After all what have you got to loose. You were going to buy a new keyboard anyway.

I didn't, it seems to be fine without the dishwasher.
