I'm sitting here in front of my Powermac 933Mhz Quicksilver with a new Geforce 4Ti Graphics card in its box.
Before I open it I need to know from any of you who have replaced your Geforce MX cards with the Ti version, have you seen ANY performance enhancements?

I'm looking for smoother and faster performance using OS X 10.2.

I remember some of you have upgraded to this card so I'd really appreciate your opinions, as it ain't cheap.

I was going to wait for the ATI 9700 but its already out for Windows yet no one has any idea when and if it will be released for the Mac.

if the only speed increse your looking for is with QE.. my god NO! I had a GeForce2MX and got a ATI 8500 for a good price. I diden't see ANY speed improvement with QE or the OS.. I did get better FPS in games.. but then again.. I really don't play games anymore..so I sort of wasted my cash.

Hope this helps you from doing the same.

There is a huge difference in overall performance between a Dual-500 and a 933. I would definitely give it a try. Especially with these 128 MB of VRAM and (in general you should have this) a big chunk of RAM in your machine, a performance increase in QE is not unlikely.

I was going to say! In support of what those other guys commented on, the only improvements you will see is in playing games and other GPU intesive tasks. QE can only get so liquid and your Gforce2MX is quick enough to make any difference rather marginal.

However, if you want to play Unreal Tournament 2003 come around Christmas whent the Mac version ETA's, your MX card will totally suck it up compared to the Ti.

The differences are only really noticeable in 3D gaming -- that is FPS games like Quake 3 and UT.

If you play those, INSTALL IT. If you're not an FPS gamer, save $300 or $400 ;-)
