If you look at the 30" you'll see that he was in bootcamp at the time. To my knowledge there is only a windows hack to use the hd-dvd on a computer.

Well as I said in the post just before you it was a video clip, nothing HD. However the HD-DVD addon works without any hack in windows as long as you have a HDCP display. Unfortunately the ACDs are not.

My father just upgraded to a MacPro and I was lucky enough to get his old Quicksilver. Here are the specs:

Dual 1.6GHz (up from dual 800MHz)
768 MB memory (needs atleast a gig)
80GB HD
120GB HD
USB 2.0 Card
Airport Card
Superdrive
17" Studio Display
JBL Creatures
Running 10.4.8

Such a great computer, it's six years old and still going strong!

Are those intel or powerpc based xserves? How do they sound (i.e. loud fan, constant fan, etc.)?

I'm sensing a lot of capital expenditure with the previous setup.

Intel Xserves, the fans run constant, decently loud, probably about 65-75 decibels, give or take. Get 60 or so of them in a rack and it sounds like a jet turbine, or is that the Air Conditioning... either way one is pretty loud, enough that it'll bother you for the first couple days until you get used to sitting behind a few of them.

As for capital expenditure, yeah, quite a bit, but it's a new business venture, so I expected as much.
