Issues with 8800GT (1st gen)

Hi there
I just purchased my 8800GT (1st gen) last week and i am have some problems with it:
1. Mac Pro refuses to wake up after sleep since new card has been installed
fan just runs at its max forever....seriously
2. 8800gt overheats when playing Age of Empires 3, causing it to crash, and when I restart it, it has a grainy type apple start up logo and same with icons and background
Any solutions?

Heh, well ATI and NVIDIA are pretty much the only two decent GPU makers out there, so good luck. I had a similar problem with an 8600GTS on a PC, and mduell is correct, the grainy logo is the same thing I got, the hardware was defective. It sounds like the stock cooling was bad, possibly a fan or something, Age of Empires isn't the most demanding game haha.

Fantastic.
If i bring it in the box will they exchange it or will i have to bring Mac Pro and let them check it out?
and by any chance is it possible that I accidently have a program that might be doing this or is it purely hardware?

thats odd.
when I take a screenshot if it (when grainy) it looks normal using (command+shift+3)
could there be another problem i.e my 30" monitor ??

would the monitor also cause the crashing when playing AOE?

The computer thinks everything is being drawn to the screen correctly but the video card isn't doing its job. These things happen when they overheat, have an out of date ROM flash, or go straight to bed without dinner bad. Fire up as a PC with bootcamp and see if the problem follows to Windows. If it does, call Apple (1-800-MY-APPLE) and tell them the problem happens under both OS X and Windows so you know it is a hardware problem and make arrangements to get a replacement card without dragging 50 lbs. of box to your local Apple store.

after replacing the 8800gt everything seems to be working fine... at least for now
