PMG5 (Dual Core 2.0) Kernel Panic Issue

While my June 2004 Power Mac has power issues in another thread, my 2.0DC (Late 2005) has been kernel panicking to no end. I've tried component isolation and have reseated the processor, changed the RAM, reset PMU, and have used different hard drives (it's definitely NOT an OS issue!) but I can't get it to stop kernel panicking. The weird part is that if the machine is left off for a long time (read: 24 hours or so) then it will work again for a day or so, but once it dies it won't work again for another 24 hours. Alternatively, sometimes before it even gets a chance to KP, it simply turns on and beeps at me 3 times (bad RAM banks error) and then kicks the fans on full blast. Anyone out there think this is anything other than the logic board? Why does letting it rest make it work again?
It also isn't on it's first logic board, because it doesn't have a serial number. that makes 2 Power Mac G5s I own that have had logic board replacements that Apple has forgotten to serialize!

Please post the log entry from the most recent 2-4 kernel panics. You can find it in /Library/Logs/panic.log

I'd say logic board. The G5 2.0 dual is shocking for them. It's the heat that does for them. The crash logs will probably point to some unspecific problem related to memory, but it's the board that actually causes it.

i do notice that the processor temp is around 170F during processes such as video rendering, and the CPU fans stay around 600 rpm (never seen them above 700, front or back). wonder why they don't speed up?

The first KP report suggests a hard drive issue of some sort. The 2nd one doesn't suggest anything to me. The two weird ones show text corruption - some of the character bits are off. When the system crashes, the KP report is stored in pram (flash RAM) until the next boot - then written out to the hard drive. Flash requires higher voltage during write operations.
You've tried different hard drives, so what would be common across drives? Drives have motors, they require a power surge to spin up. Suppose your power supply has weakened, and the system crashes whenever it can't keep up. - ie, system wants more power. Voltage drops, and the system KPs.
Do you have a voltmeter to stick on the power connector for an unused drive bay? I'd suggest putting it on the 12-volt rail, then monitor as you use the computer for awhile.

i was typing a response on that computer when it died again. just so you know, the system crashes even it has no hard drives or optical drives, or external devices. but no, i don't have a PSU tester. i've already won an ebay auction for a new board so we'll see if that fixes it.
