Hi,
I am considering to upgrade my macpro1.1 with a new Xeon... It is about two years old and I honestly don't know what Xeon should I look for (except I would like it to be as fast as it could be). I don't want to over clock or anything, just to swap processors.

Right now it's 5150 @ 2.66. That should be

What Xeon should I look for?

Thanks

Dual-core X5160 at 3GHz. Or quad-core X5365 also at 3GHz. E/X54xx series won't work (same socket, but require different chipset).

You might want to pay attention to wattage when upgrading to clovertowns. I did upgrade my 2ghz quad mac pro to 2.33 octo. If this is no concern, then go for what you can afford. Ebay has some used ones which is were I got mine. The new ones are way to expensive. The hardest part of replacing is to make sure you have a long enough hex drive to get past the heat sinks. Otherwise, be patient and you will have it done in about 2 hrs. One draw back is you don't have 64 bit EFI in those mac pros. Might be better to sell it and get the next generation mac pro which is what I have now.
