i'm currently thinking of selling/trading my Powerbook G4 400Mhz model for a Pismo 500.

The way i look at it, is that they are virtually identical, vram, graphics, ram, etc.

the only things i'd lose are the 15.2 inch screen (it was nice, but not a huge deal)
and the G4 (which i don't use that much, i use PS7 but very lightly)

but i'd gain, the expandibility of the pismos(i really want a CD-R/DVD drive), tons of hacks/upgrades etc, amazing battery life(with one battery OR two), and more important, a rugged machine that I don't have to baby.

so please
give me your thoughts/ideas give me some input, what do you have to say?

Do it. I think you've answered your own question. If the pluses are big and the minuses are small, make the move.

Better yet, get the Pismo G3 400 and get the $299 G4 500 MHz upgrade, and you'll have better speed than your Ti 400!

Seems like an even trade to me. I would go for a built in combo drive, but that may be tricky.

Sounds like the way to go to me.

I believe they did reduce the price on that upgrade to $279.

I hate to bring this up again, and I am not trying to be a jerk here.... but your extensive mods may be a problem for some people. I'm just saying that it being an even trade may be the case - if your Ti were completely stock and in decent shape. Just something to consider when you're thinking this over... it's bound to lose you some money - maybe even enough to make it not worth the trouble.

My reasons for the "downgrade":
Airport Reception
Heat
Durability
Expansion Bay

I grabbed a G4 400 with an amazing accessory package on ebay , still under applecare, and was able to net 500.00 in the deal. I then added a G4 upgrade and a gig of ram.

Could not be happier.

Good luck

Hey, I offered him my Pismo despite his 'mods' and he hasn't bothered to write me back.... oh well....
