Thanks guys.
Matshita FUJITSU MHS2060AT
OK, that's the Fujitsu hard drive I mentioned earlier. I didn't realize Fujitsu was a subsidiary of Matshita.

As for the Matshita CW-8121 DVD/CD-RW combo drive, for a moment I hoped it might have DVD-RAM read support, since Matshita is big on DVD-RAM. But as far as I can find, there is no such support on that drive. Also, no RPC-1 region free firmware seems to exist for it, although I didn't look very hard.

I wouldn't rely on Fedex tracking that much. I do alot of international shipping and recieving and most of the time the tracking details are not accurate.

For those of you who had powerbooks leave TPE last night at 19:57 you might wanna check your Fedex tracking info. Mine left the Fedex Sort Facility in Anchorage at 14:23 local time I guess there is still hope it might arrive tomorrow although Fedex says it's not gonna be delivered til Friday.

The last listing for mine is still: Left FedEx RampC.K.S. INTL AIRPORT TW 11/13/2002 19:56

I hope it didn't fall out of the plane over the Pacific!

Edit: Now also listed as having left Fedex sort facility in alaska. Yeah! (This is the first brand new computer I'v bought for myself since my Centris-that was a 25MHz 68040 for the young folks out there)

If the TiPB came today I would have had a clean sweep with the major shipping companies Got packages (boxes) from the US Post Office, Airborne, and UPS.

Yeah same here. Right after that statement it indicates the following:

I think I might be on the same flight. Fed Ex seems to be conservative with all delivery times. They especially wanted to hedge their bets when it came to getting through customs. They told me, once through customs it would be delivered the next day. If it left Alaska, then its already been through customs. (Hoping).

=Chiang Kai Shek International Airport in Taiwan (probably mispelled that). The scan activity order is misleading because it is based on local date/time where the scan ocurred-but our powerbooks crossed the international date line today, so based on time they arrived in Alaska before leaving Taiwan.

Don't know about other ARS, but 2 of the NJ Apple Stores got 3 or 4 Superdrive Ti's in early this week which sold instantly.

Guys, I am a LONG TIME reader of the forum, but just never had much to say.... However, I thought I would let you know that I ordered my PB SD @ 8:57 AM on that Wednesday (in essence one minute after the announcement). Therefore, I "should" be one of the first ones shipped from Taiwan. I will let you know when mine is being prepped for shipment. Mine should be a sign of things to come.

Last thing i have is still

Arrived at Sort FacilityINDIANAPOLIS IN 11/14/2002 00:59

If i'm lucky it could all ready be out of there and in ft. lauderdale on its way to my place .... it takes fedex an awfully long time to update it's tracking pages so it's anyone's guess right now. If it does get here today i'm going to flip with joy and also be extremely annoyed being that I had to cancel a doctors appointment friday expecting to receive the book friday morning

we'll see

Yeah, mine is saying:

However, it says nothing about being held. However, it seems your tracking information has always been 1 step of mine at providing information! Where are you located BTW?

Apple Hardware Test
Blank CD-R
Airport install

That's it, and the manuals of course. Also, 2 plugs, one is a funky powercord for I'm not sure what and the other is a serial cord.

Besides the Hardware Test CD, it's a software install DVD.

This of course means that those of you without a DVD-R burner won't be able to directly back up your install disc.

I wonder how many "AAArrrrrggghhhh! I broke my install disc and I don't have a backup!" posts we're gonna get in the next year.

I ordered mine on November 6. The people at Fedex didn't know why mine went all the way to IND. Did yours go through ANC and IND?

I just talked to them. They said mine has cleared customs in IND, but she wasn't sure where it was now. I asked for the daily Fedex flight schedule times and she will be calling me back with that information and an update on where my baby is.

I apologize for my previous statement that it went from Taiwan to Sunnyvale, CA straight. It did in fact go through Alaska and Indiana. The weird thing is that it shows it leaving Taiwan then to Alaska then back to Taiwan then to Indiana, but it seems like everything only took about a day. I paid for the $15 extra shipping. The funny thing is that the Spire Icon G4 backpack I ordered will come in today too, a couple days earlier...what a coincidence. It is a pretty nice laptop, it is my first Mac. Other threads are saying that the superdrives will be available on the 19th or 20th...I should have waited but oh well, no big deal. Time to play!

PS: by the way it is the Combo version

It didn't go to ANC and then back to TPE. The times and dates on the Fedex website are the local times. Taiwan is 17 hours ahead of Anchorage and that's why it might seem it left TPE and then came back after going to ANC.

When Fedex refers to "RAMP" they are referring to their airport facilities.

Looks like both of our powerbooks took the plane to Indy. However, I have no information on where the hell it is at the moment. I would hope it left at the same times yours did, but went to San Antonio.

Did Fedex have all this tracking information before it arrived? I mean did you know it was on the truck?

Also, was fedex reporting delivery time of Friday before 10:30??

Not until this morning when I checked. I was surprised to see Sunnyvale on it. Last night it only said that it is in Taiwan. Did you pay that extra $15? I believe that you should be getting it soon, if not today at the latest tomorrow (hoping), since San Antonio is just a little farther.

Yeah, I paid the extra 15.. man I hope it arrives today. I still have hope. BTW, it should be closer (Indiana is from SA)

When I last checked about midnight last night my powerbook was still listed as: Left FedEx Sort FacilityANCHORAGE AK 11/13/2002 14:23

It was delivered to Dallas this morning before 9AM. Total travel time from Taiwan to Alaska to Indianapolis to Dallas to my door: 35 hours and 23 minutes. I did pay the extra $15.

Maybe I should send Fedex a fruit basket or something? I was shocked to see it so fast. Hope the rest of you guys get yours soon. Unfortunately I had a long day so just got home and am installing software now. Seems very fast but the fan (very quiet fan) is running almost all the time.

Honestly until the Powerbooks are stocked at Apple's Facility in Elk Grove, I don't think there is a difference on what shipping method you choose. For a comparison my laptop left TPE on November 13 at 3:56 AM and after making stops in ANC and IND it arrived in SJC on November 14 at 5:20 PM. That's roughly 37 hours. I've converted the departure time of the laptop to the local time in California.

I selected the "Free" Shipping when I purchased my laptop.

Anyone from Europe have an update?

My 867 also left Taiwan on the 13th, but AppleStore reckons 5-6 days for delivery which would mean middle of next week

We don't seem to have online tracking from Europe either.

Hi all, I'm new here.

I have a PowerBook (1GHz) on order and was wondering about how long it would take considering the FedEx status so far:

4 - Left FedEx RampC.K.S. INTL AIRPORT TW 11/15/2002 20:35
3 - Arrived at FedEx RampTA YUAN HSIANG TW 11/14/2002 23:11
2 - Left FedEx Origin LocationTAOYUAN CITY TW 11/14/2002 18:03
1 - Pickup statusTAOYUAN CITY TW 11/14/2002 17:56

From your FedEx tracking experiences, do you know how much longer it would take to get to NYC from this last FedEx status notation? I did pay the $15 to expedite it, but I think that just means they move it out the factory doors quicker (and they did since it went from 'being reviewed' to 'shipped' in one day).

Any info would be great, thanks!

Nope. Not unless you have Saturday shipping. Businesses are closed on weekends.
