Just got my hands on a 250 Mhz Wallstreet...

It lacks the original software...but if I want to put OS 9 on it does that matter?

When I upgrade the software does it know it's going on a Powerbook and will it install/update those system items that are necessary for a Powerbook?

Thanks.

I can answer this indirectly. When I install OS 9 on my iMac, it only puts the stuff my iMac needs and none of the portable Mac control panels, etc. I would assume it works the other way around for portables.
You can always do a custom install and just get what you want.

Apple says it can run OS 9 as well.

As long as the OS 9 install CD is a retail version, and not a machine/model specific version of an install disk, it will install what is required on the PB as opposed to a desktop model.

i concur. it'll work great and give you all the portable stuff if it's the full version of MacOS (and not the powermacg3 recovery disk or something).

there used to be an 'install system software to run any mac' option in the installers in os8. i think it's gone now, tho. it would give you the minimum requirements to boot up any current hardware.

in os9 there's that 'system enabler' file and some other junk in the sys folder that's machine specific, so the installer has to detect your machine in order to give you the right stuff...

I thought the system enabler was for older versions of Mac OS? I noticed that I don't have one in my system folder, and can't remember ever having one.
