Yup, I was worried when getting an iBook or 12 inch Power Book that in a year or so I'll be at bible college with a buncha kids with Centrino laptops getting better battery life than me, and then I couldn't be the smug mac user... but after looking on the major laptop vendor's sites, the only sony Centrino Laptop I could find was 4000 Canadian bucks... hence I'm not so worried any more hehe

It doesn't really matter. Yours is a mac, theirs is a PC. If they don't like macs, they'll hold their notepads up like a laptop and write iSuck on them trying to be funny, but you will simply ignore them. When they ask you for a printout of your notes, you will smugly say certainly if you pay for ink and paper...

Been there, done that

Well, I am worried now. Not only does that mean that I will have to deal with short battery lives in PC notebooks (just because I like my iBook doesn't mean I hate x86s) but it also means that Apple will continue to not upgrade the iBooks significantly. A better competition from Intel would have made good notebooks cheaper altogether.
The ones who should be worried about cheaper better Intel notebooks should be the CEOs from Apple and AMD, but we customer should be happy about each penny saved.

Stink different.

Huh? Because of battery life the iBook isn't gonna be upgraded? Sorry but that makes NO sense.

competition = good
less competition = bad

Cheap Centrions would make Apple design better iBooks in order to remain competetive.

Stink different.

I'm a bit confused by this entire thread. Unless you were looking specifically for a Sony Centrino laptop, I just looked at Dell's Canada site, and they have the 600M starting at $2100 Canadian. Prices for most of the other manufacturers may be $300-$500 higher than regular P4-M laptops, but they're certainly not outrageously priced. Since Dell's laptops are relatively inexpensive to start out with, the 600M isn't bad (even though it's battery life is only around 3.5 hrs according to a C|Net review), and at about $1770 US ($1620 after rebate) for a 600M that has comparable specs to the 14.1" iBook with Airport, at not too much a higher price.

Again, I might've completely missed something in this thread, sorry if I have.
