I thought there was an option in the OS to disable laptop control keys so I can use Function keys without pressing FN.

I won't survive without this feature, I need to disable them... I mean how often does one mess with the sound/brightness.

Anyone?

I don't like uControl... it crashes my system.
I thought OS X had a feature like this.

There isn't a system option to disable the function keys. But they're really seldom used for anything on the Mac. I use the brightness and sound keys a lot, and the function keys--never.

No, you're not blind-- It's not built in. The only way that I know of is the already-mentioned uControl. While I can understand why people wouldn't want to use it (risky), I've been using it for about 5 months now without any problems.
