Hey, I have a brand new 1Ghz tibook. Its great, i'm getting used to osx, but one thing that really irks me is that it goes to sleep when I close the lid. I searched but could find no way around this. Don't tell me to connect an external monitor or keyboard because i'm not doing that. This is not a desktop replacement. When I go to sleep, i'm ssh'ed in to places and I don't want to lose connection by going to sleep. Is there a way to prevent this from happening when I close the lid? I think closing the lid is the best way to have the laptop sitting around, for safety reasons and all, don't want to get it damaged.

Did you search this forum? This topic seems to come up at least once a week...

But to make a long story short, while there are ways of getting around this, I don't think it is such a great idea and I question whether it is really necessary. How exactly does closing your powerbook keep it safe?

dust, bb's, volleyballs(i live in a frat house). besides, its annoying to sleep whenever you close the lid. losing my wireless internet connection means I get logged out of wherever i am logged into. I also get logged out of my AIM client. this is poop. there are no simple and clean solutions to this problem?

If you somehow block the magnet in the right palmrest, it won't go to sleep. There is also some sort of hack available that does it, but I have no experience with it. You could just cover the keyboard with a towel or something too.

You can leave your tibook with the lid almost closed, something like opened at a 10-15 degrees angle..It's not perfect but at least your computer won't go to sleep and it will be protected (kind of) from bbs and volleyballs...
Powerbook 1.67ghz 15" (100GB HD, 128MB VRAM, 1.5GB RAM)
