I currently own a 15" 800mhz TI. The drive is 60gig and runs at 5400. I've also just ordered the new Albook 17" (Whoopeeeee) but I'm slightly worried that the speed bump won't be that great on the new Albbok due to the drive only running at 4200, (which seems very low to me)
I do a lot of audio work and normally use my Lacie to run the audio off. However I do need to work on the fly and was just wondering if 4200 will be enough and also whether the speed bump from the 17" compared to the 15" will be that noticeable?
Thanks

I dunno how much of a difference you'll notice in these two situation, but remember that it isn't just the RPMs, it's the RPMs and data density that controll data transfer rates. A lower RPM disk could transfer substantially more data if the density were much higher.
Also, wouldn't increasing HD performance in portables across the board really increase the overall speed of a machine? It seems that development has lagged behind in this department (even by Motorolla standards!).

So you don't think the speed difference will be that great? Oooh Nooo. I was hoping that I'd get a significant increase. OSX seems slow on this 15" Ti. Well, the finder is slow anyway.

I dont think that osx runs slow on the albooks. RPM's dont mean everthing, cable transfer rates and also seek times matter alot. Take for example the 10k cheeta, its fast and scsi and outperforms the eide equivalent. I think you will be ok. Plus higher rpms means higher heat and more powerconsumption, both of wich you try to avoid with portables.

I agree...on my Ghz Ti (gig RAM), OS X runs fast enough for my purposes. My uncle has my old Ti400, and it is noticeably slower (394 RAM).
Of course, more speed is always a good thing, but no complaints on X's speed here!
