I have a question - If I want to store a spare powerbook battery (in this case 17"), what is the best way to do this - charged or discharged (drained)? Is there a time limit as to how long a battery should be stored charged or discharged before it should be used again? How quickly will a stored battery lose it's charge?

Ok, so it's more like three questions, but you know how it is

Thanks!

Wet Jimmy.

I would think keeping it full for long periods of time might not be good but defenitly keep it out of hot places.

Well, Apple seems to ship them close to full and I am sure they expect them to sit on the shelf for a while (well, except for the 17" right now ) So I am guessing storing them full won't hurt them any. They will gradually discharge over time though.

Full is fine, around 3/4 a charge is recommended, and the caveat is that they ALWAYS lose charge over time.

The corollary to that is, don't buy a battery unless you are going to use it.

My issue is that some weeks I'll be using two batteries regularly, and other weeks I'll be working fine with just one. I'm curious as to the best way to keep my spare battery when I won't be using it.

Wow, I never really thought about this but I'm interested in an answer to this as well. I ordered a spare battery for my 17" PB as long days in class away from an AC outlet will require 2 batteries, but some weeks may not...anyone have any factual information to this?

Well i just picked up an extra battery, found it quite useful when working outside the house on web stuff and if you are fine a one battery for a while I was suggested to rotate them every 2-3 weeks from a friend who has a PB and has had 2 batteries for about 2 yrs and he says that works fine for maintaining them.
