Which one should I get?
I personally like the iCurve's design more, but the Lapvantage Deluxe has the adjustable neck, which might come in handy.
Also, how have your experiences been with shipping? I just had a bad experience with Macally in that they promised me a keyboard within a week, but I waited a full 2 months before finally canceling my order (and promptly bought a Logitech keyboard at Best Buy the same day).
Thanks,
-Sage

I love my icurve. It's barely visible and you can slide the kbd underneath it too.

I also love my iCurve. Quite stylish and has really improved the strain in my neck from using the laptop all day. Highly recommended...

I had to make this same choice, and I went w/ the iCurve and couldn't be happier. It's MORE than stable, it's beautiful, and it is exactly what I needed. Also, check out these threads for where this question had already been answered:

As a side note, I currently have my iBook placed on top of my dad's non-tower G3 PowerPC... works quite nicely, since it's the perfect height. However, I need something that's a bit more pleasing to look at, and I need to reclaim some of the room that the G3 takes up...
Thanks again!

Just see those 2 links in my previous post; the iCurve is a beautiful thing to look at, and it really doesn't take up much space, escp. considering it actually adds to your available work space by allowing a keyboard to be slid underneath instead of in front of the 'Book.

Thanks for the links... upon looking through them, I was reminded of one more thing...
I live in southern CA, and not very many miles from the San Andreas Fault. So, earthquakes, while not common, do happen. Thus I want to get a stand that won't tip over or won't let the iBook fall off during a major earthquake... should the iCurve be stable enough to handle that?

In the event of an earthquake, honestly, I wouldn't trust either one, as both of them could topple when hit hard enough. But under minor quakes, I'd certainly trust the iCurve...I smacked it a few times in testing and it held firm.

Until we get a 3 lbs sub-PowerBook, the 12-inch PowerBook will do.

OK, I guess I'll just be going with an iCurve... WOuld it be unreasonable for me to expect the iBook to survive in the case of an earthquake? (I mean, people have dropped TiBooks while walking and only experienced minor dents, so it seems to me that a 5 inch drop wouldn't do much harm to an iBook).
Thanks again!

Sage: I really don't think you should worry as much as you do. Just think of it this way: the likelihood of your iBook falling off an iCurve during an earthquake is even smaller than the likelihood of an earthquake occuring in the first place.
Finally, if you're that worried about earthquake damage to your iBook, get insurance for your iBook! If paying for insurance gives you peace of mind, maybe it's worth the price.

I have the Lapvantage and I love it. Once you set the hight you probably won't adjust it ever again though. The Lapvantage swivels if you need to position the screen in a different direction.
The Platform that your iBook, or PowerBook, sits on is a full platform. I like that over the two prongs that the iCurve gives you.
Both will likely do a good job for you. I prefer the look of the Lapvantage but that would come down to a personal preference.

Just thought I'd mention that this iBook looks damn cool on this iCurve -

I might get an iCurve too, I guess you cannot type on the iCurve, it wobbles too much?

Well, not only that, but it'd be too high, which kind of defeats the whole ergonomic purpose! Just get an external keyboard (and mouse!)-- I have a Logitech Elite and an MX500, and they're fabulous! (Buttons galore)... they also match each other in color schemes.

I don't trust Macally anymore... I ordered an Ice Key in January, and finally cancelled my order in late March because they still hadn't even shipped it, even though I got several emails promising that it would be in stock within a week.

My iBooks thanks you for the compliment.

That's right, Peter. If you search the iBook (or maybe it was peripherals) forum for "escher" and "iCurve" you should be able to find an older thread, where I posted an extensive review of the iCurve and iBook combination. My two main gripes were that the iCurve wobbled along with my wobbly desk and that the iCurve was a tiny bit wider than the iBook (you can see that in the picture above).
BTW: Why would anybody get a 3rd party keyboard? I have a black Apple Pro keyboard on my wish list.

Because my Logitech Elite was $30 cheaper, matches my MX500's color scheme, has short-stroke keys (easier to type), and has 19 extra buttons (31 if you count the F-Lock keys) to launch stuff and whatever the heck you want.

Because Apple doesn't make Ergo. keyboards and that's a must have for me. My Adesso TRU-FORM ICE Ergonomic keyboard matches my Apple-scheme precisely and uses all the official Apple keys...it's perfect.

OK, you guys win. 3rd party keyboards makes sense under certain circumstances. It's just that in my experience, many of them have been of poor quality compared to Apple keyboards.

How does your Adesso ergonomic keyboard compare to Microsoft's natural keyboard? I used the MS ergo keyboard for years on my Wintel box at work and loved it for extended typing. I'd love to have an equivalent that matches better for my Mac at home.
Escher
PS: User reviews on Epinions give the Adesso keyboard mixed reviews. One of the reviews raises the issue that build quality is lower than Apple's, which is my main concern with 3rd party keyboards.

That's the exact keyboard I have...I cannot understand why anyone would view it negatively whatsoever! It's a marvelous keyboard...it's beautiful & fits the Apple-scheme extremely well. They keys are black w/ white letters, and the letters are the official Apple font that is found on Apple keyboards, and the white letters are amazingly easy to see in the dark. Too, it's got the Command key, Alt/Option key, and the rest of the keys to make it a 100% "Mac" keyboard. The keys are silent in operation in comparison to my old Dell Microsoft "QuietKey" ergo keyboard, and they're so much easier to press. It's the most comfortable keyboard I've ever used, hands down. I couldn't recommend this keyboard highly enough, it's amazing. Plugged right in and everything functions perfectly in OS X w/ no drivers whatsoever. You can pick it up cheapest by searching at www.techsavings.com
