I have an iBook 800, Gatsby is her name, and a funny thing happened. I plugged in a monitor to see if the mirroring worked and lo and behold! it was SPANNING! Yes, SPANNING! After playing for a few seconds, the spanning stopped and it reverted to mirroring. (Believe me, what a let down. I was literally speechless when I was spanning. Then to have it just stop... Buzz kill!)

I remembered reading about a spanning hack and reviewed all of the threads relating to it. My question is if it will work on my iBook without killing it. Gatsby is only about one month old. The video card according to the System Profiler is:

Card Type: ATY,DDParent
Card Name: ATY,BeeParent
Card Model: ATY, RageM7
ROM#: 113-XXXXX-210

I want to try the hack. Does anybody know if it will kill Gatsby? Do I have the proper card that supports the hack? Thank you for your input.

Have fun... Tony.

If you follow the instructions closely, the hack is risk-free.
If not, you'll have to zap your PRAM in order to fix things again.

Thanks, man! I did the hack (the temporary one) and it worked like a charm. All I can say is WOW! It is most completely coo-coo. I'll be making it a permanent part of my firmware in just a few. Thank you for the confidence boost.

Have fun... Tony.

Then I wonder what to make of the fact that I called mine 'Mixotrophe'? Other than I'm weird, of course.

We're Mac users. We're all a little odd. We like machines that work, have aesthetic appeal, and can MONITOR SPAN. Seriously, this hack makes my iBook investment so completely worth it... One hundred fold! Thank all of you for the words of encouragement.

Have fun... Tony.

The page does not seem to be there any more. I currently have monitor spanning enabled on my iBook but I would like to have a copy of the instructions in case I have to do it again. Could someone please post those instruction or a link to a working site? Thanks
