As many posts as there's been about battery woes with iBooks w/.2.4 I feel this deserves to be on the iBook board. I hope they've solved the problem (disclaimer to keep my post from being moved)
Anyone do it yet? I am not at home and do not want to tie up the local phone lines trying to d/l such a massive file.
Anyone? Bueller?

Downloaded and installed on a G4 DP 500 and a 700mHz iBook. No problem on either.

I installed it on my iBook, without any problems. However I can't say whether it resolved the batterie situation because, luckly, this problem hasn't presented itself....yet. *knocks on wood*

I've had 10.2.5 running for aout 3 hours on my 700mhz iBook (previous version with 16mb Radeon Mobility). So far it is working perfectly. Everything seems to run quickly and smoothly. But I haven't tried to run entirely on battery yet.

Well I installed it this morning and it's not good guys. This is on my iBook 600 combo, which until now had no battery problems. I noticed that the system was saying the battery was charged, yet the power adaptor was still orange. So I clicked a bit, no change, then unplugged the iBook and to my horror I was told I had only 1 hour 38 minutes time, compared to 2 hours 30 minutes or more pre-update. Worse still, the percentage charge seems to be slowly slipping away at about 1% every minute or so (makes sense for 1:40 time left I guess).
I've been reading on this forum about people with battery troubles and having to buy new batteries etc. I hope I can get it fixed with drain/recharge cycles and or resetting the PMU. I'll post any changes.
If your iBook is working OK, then think twice about 10.2.5, it doesn't seem to have brought me any benefits...

i installed it yesterday pretty much as it was avalible... let's just say i like being a guinei pig
but yeah, no problems on my 800 iBook.
---edit---
i lie.
i just woke up, so please excuse me for forgetting.
but in ucontrol you can swap keys. i swapped the return for a fn so i can scroll my trackpad with either hand. on 10.2.5 holding the enter which is now an fn is *utterly* slow and i have to slide my finger across the trackpad really fast to make it go anywhere.
i have made a post (in macosX forum) about this i.

There is that battery monitor app at versiontracker that might help you monitor your battery life correctly over time. It's a must have.
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15982
Drain out your battery a couple of times without putting it to sleep, and charge the battery full between each time. The apple menu battery indicator will only show you estimated time left. X-Charge logs every battery activity correctly. So you will know exactly how long your estimated battery life is in real life usage.
BTW: I also have that 600 combo model (Ati 8 mb), and I too only have 1.30 hour life time.. It's sad. Thought a new battery doesn't cost that much, relative speaking.

Thanks for the tip sniffer. I did d/l X-Charge but I haven't tried it yet. I think I may have been a bit over-worrid in my last post really, although I still think 10.2.5 has knocked the wind out of my battery. I let it drain all the way to emergency sleep (took about as long as it said it would) and am now charging it up whilst off (well the light it pulsing, not sure if it's really off or asleep). I think I might try resetting the PMU after charging for about 4 hours or so, then have a look with X-Charge.
Having looked around this forum, this does seem to be a big problem. I personally can't justify the cost of a new battery and had intended my iBook to last me until late 2004/early 2005. Heres hoping that 10.3 will magically end all these problems.
Scratch that, I hope 10.2.6 fixes it...

I have just installed 10.2.5 using the combo updater and have not experienced any new problems. Neither have I experienced any improvement in battery performance (went to sleep at 92%).

Updated to 10.2.5 on my 600MHz combo (8mb ATI) while plugged into AC. After booting into 10.2.5 I unplugged the AC and the battery meter reports an estimated 3:13 of life remaining. So it looks like your mileage may vary on this model iBook, considering a couple of the posts above.

Anyways, I'm running 10.2.5 on my 600MHz/16MB/CD without any flaw. I also never had any battery life problems, so I can't speak for any improvement here, sorry.

A better way is to boot into OS9 and see what'll happen. OS 9 have an excelent and matured power saving features.
BTW: How is battery prizes around where you live? I've heard before it's mentioned around here that battery prizes are so stiff and everything, but I am not sure. At least that is in my region where everything is expensive, especially macs. We have 24% in taxes on top of the real prize on most goods. But I don't find iBooks batteries to be the hardest investment relative speaking IMO. A good looking pants and a sweater will cost together about the same as one of those iBook batteries around here..
(By all means, my thoughts doesn't mean that I think the batteries are cheap, or that I am rich, or anything. )

Not for me; my system is 100% OS9 free

A new battery from Apple would cost me £90.48 with my education discount. As a overworked/underpaid PhD student I can't afford it.

Depending on where you shope of course, but then I can't afford new clothes either
I think I panicked a bit before. I'm going to try the PMU reset but first I'm having a look at X-Charge. I think the PMU reset is the only real solution though...

I too have never had battery problems. If anything, I might have noticed a slight increase in battery time (like maybe 10 minutes). Of course, my battery is old. I really missed out on the prime of it's life because I was always tethered to the AC adapter.
I don't mind updating. I've been noticing some stuff happening lately with my 10.2.4 installation (10.2 + 10.2.4 combo updater). Programs began to freeze one after another, eventually, the Dock froze. I couldn't even use COMMAND+OPTION+ESC. I tried to put it to sleep, but that started and failed too. I guess I should mention that this was after trying to unmount an FTP volume in the Finder. I think I have a lot of problems come up when working with the Finder, particularly with mounted disks (mounting and/or unmounting).
Edit: I think my iBook went to sleep about 10 minutes sooner than it expected. My battery is simply just about shot.

I was able to get access to the Date & Time pane. I noticed that the option to use a Network Time Server wasn't enabled, so I enabled it.
I noticed that before I restarted after the update, I couldn't get anything new to open.

Well, I am also hoping my fellow will last some years. And I'll start my studies this fall. So I am with you that batteries isn't the first thing I would want to put my money on..
