I have a logitech USB optical mouse. It works fine on my powerbook, my only issue is that the damn thing takes two strides on the mouse pad to make from one side to the other! I suppose with such a large amount acreage a bigger mousepad could be in order... but I've considered loading the Logtech drivers onto my machine. I've already made the mouse as sensitive as it cna get on the OSX preferences, but still, i want my mouse to fly across the screen... does it make sense to get the logitech software/drivers? 25mb installer...

maybe this should be put into the peripherals forum? if so, my bad.

The Logitech driver does indeed make the mouse much faster. (You still use the System Preferences to set the speed, but there's a big difference with the drivers installed).

The Logitech driver (LCC) can make the mouse tracking faster but at the cost of somehow making the scrolling slower.

An alternative driver, and a cure-all in my book, is the USB Overdrive app you can find from versiontracker. It makes mouse tracking as fast or as slow as you want in 2 parameters: resolution and acceleration. Scrolling is also quick without losing tactile control. Best part is that it is has relatively low CPU usage and it's less than a megabyte installed. The only thing not to like about it is maybe the $20 shareware price to register but I think it's worth it since it works with just about any mouse, trackball, or gamepad that you can plug in via USB.
