I have a 17" PB with the 23" HD Cinema display.

I have been trying to play some DVD's and to my demise, many are not 16:9 screen ratio as I had thought they were, some are anomorphic and 1.78:1 ratio. Even the one's claiming to be true full screen show a small black border on top and bottom. However this is not my problem. Just a minor annoyance.

The problem I am having is that the DVD player will not allow me to drag it to my 23" to watch the movie there. So I figure that maybe I need to use mirror display rather than secondary. Wallah, the movie with DVD player shows up on my 23" cinema display, but to my demise it shows up with my PB resolution of 1440 x 900 and has about a 2 - 3" border around the movie, on top of it's border. Rather than displaying the Cinema Display resolution of 1920 x 1200. Grrrrr

Is there away around this, something in the DVD software settings that I am missing or a better software for playing DVD's on an apple that will allow me to drag the software to the external display?

All very good questions, now I will wait and see if I can find some very good answers to go with them.

Thanks in advance.

If you close your powerbook with the display plugged in, you should be able to choose the Cinema display's native resolution, since the Powerbook screen isn't being used.

It shouldn't go to sleep if there's an external monitor. Oh, and you'll need an external keyboard and mouse. Just put the computer to sleep and press a key, and your computer should wake up. (See page 52 of your manual for details)
