I have a great new powerbook G4 1 gig Sd. its a fantastic machine, fantastic build quality. nothing wrong with it.

BUT

When playing a game, the screen faded to black between scenes, and I saw a stuck pixel. I know, not another one of these threads!

So i checked it out using keynote to see if there were any more.

Guess how many stuck pixels i found on black screen? 22 give or take a few.

Here is the dillema: I LOVE THIS MACHINE and I really dont want to give it up, risking that I may get a lemon as a replacement, or at least a machine with a subpar build quality such as a messed up hinge or clicker. I really dont notice these stuckies at all, but it bothers me.

My one idea was to wait and see if more appear in the next month or so, indicating a bad screen that will die soon or somehting. This seems the most sensible considering that Ive had this machine for nearly a month and I havent seen these stuckies. Any thoughts on how to handle this?

Maybe apple will replace the just the monitor/lid and let me keep the rest of my otherwise flawless machine? thanks

Almost absolutely, Apple will just replace your screen with its casing.

They'd rather not have to replace a whole machine when they can repair yours at less expense to them.

Call them and talk to them about it.

Also, use http://macupdate.com and download pixelcheck. it will let you see the pixels that are dead or stuck even easier, for higher accuracy.

im going to call tomorrow morning to see if they will replace just the lcd.

Here is a photo that I just took with my digicamera using macro mode. so its only a very small portion of the screen, maybe a few inches square, but the part with the most stuck pixels in it.

HOLY SH**!!! That is horrible man! I just got my 17-inch and I have one dead pixel stuck on green... only it's RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN!!! Being in graphic design and 3d this is a little bit of an issue. However, I am learning to live with it. You really can't see it because of the green color without looking really hard. Its the only complaint about my first MAC. But having seen yours, I'm going to shut up now

OK so Im near the end of my semester and I am about ready to call Apple back up and get this screen replacement going. I bought applecare just now thinking that it will be useful, especially since I will be living in France for the next ten months starting in august (global coverage and all). I love this computer and I hope it holds up well.

btw, got a little (little) paint scratch on the palm rest area (i dont wear a watch or anyhting. so it doesn happen. no big deal, but remember to treat your portable well. Im using a screen cover from now one when i have the lid closed.

Also, searching for a MUCH better bag solution. Cant find anything that I raelly like for the right price. All those bag threads...
