Received my 17inch Powerbook last week. As soon as I opened it up and powered it up for the first time the screen was flickering and clouding in and out. Does it everytime I turn it on. It quits doing it after it's been on for a few minutes. What gives? Is this normal? I didn't expect this type of behavior from a $3500 dollar machine. Especially an Apple. Any similar experiences?

Your PowerBook probably has a faulty inverter board. Call Apple. They'll probably replace your PowerBook.

Sounds like the inverter board to me. Cross your fingers, they may give you a new one, but don't bet on it.

They should send you a new one. Somthing similar happend to me and the Apple Rep. told me a I paid for a brand new unit so thats what I should get. Not a repaired model. Think about it, if Apple will admit the problem is a manufacturing flaw, you might as well have bought a refurbished model. Insist on a new one.

Sorry, I forgot to say. That really, really sucks that your brand-new unit is defective. Hope it gets fixed/replaced and back to you pronto. Best of luck!

Quick update-Did go to Apple store. They hadn't encountered my type of malfunction yet on the screen. They wanted to send it in for repairs. Insisted on a new one and I got it! New one running awsome!

Aren't these Powerbooks tested before they leave the factory? I thought that each one ran for a predetermined amount of time before it left the factory. If so, the inverter may have just decided to give up after the initial test run. Glad you got a new replacement.
