I am considering getting a 12"PB

I want to replace an older G4/867 and an ibook. Since I got the ibook, I hardly use the G4, only to occasionaly edit a video or burn a DVD.

If I get rid of the G4, I hope to have the same reliability with burning DVDs. I have burned over 50 DVDs with hardly a coaster.

I have read about alot of problems on this forum with burning DVDs on a 12" PB, but are there alot of satisfied users?

How long does it take to burn a 90 minute video in iDVD?

Thanks,
ac

Well, from my experience, it depends on the media. If you use Apple-branded or high quality discs, you'll have a near-100% success rate. If you don't, there's no telling. My dad bought about 10 no-brand DVD-R's and three of them miserably failed to burn on my 12" before I gave up and tried an Apple disc with no problems...

I'm not sure how long it takes to burn thorugh iDVD, but you have to factor in the encoding to MPEG-2, so I'd say about two hours total. If you have a transcoded DVD, then the actual burning is about 55 minutes.

on my 12" the dvd burning has not failed at all, but i've only burned two movies with apple discs. a 20 minute movie took about 55 minutes from start to finish, so a 90 minute movie should take about 2 hours probably

For me (TiBook with same drive and now same firmware as 12" SuperDrive), I have excellent results with Apple media (near 100% success). I have terrible results with noname or low-end name-brand media.

Which media? I have used some of their cheaper discs many moons ago, with mixed results. Certainly it was nowhere near as good as Apple media.

Their 2X $1.59 Maxell unbranded media looks like a good option to try though. Nearly half the price of Apple media. I'm a little leery as to why they're so cheap though, since Maxell media is usually more expensive than Apple media.
