Well, as most of you know it has been a long wait for the PB 17?. I ordered mine in January minutes after the Keynote. At the same time I ordered my PB 17? I also ordered a Podium Pad. Little did I know that I needed to check the box that instructed Apple to ship my order as one package. Since I did not do that my 6 months no pay no interest began once they shipped my $29 Podium Pad. I ordered my bag from Timbuk2, awesome bag by the way. And had to wait for the sleeve to be built.

As weeks past I realized that my PB was not arriving anytime soon and that my interest free, no payment period was slipping away. You know they say time waits for no man or something like that. They are so right. So in disgust I canceled ny order and embraced my little Podium Pad and sobbed. There was a general sense of relief about not checking my order everyday and I got on with my life.

In early March I read that some people were receiving their PBs and I again got the itch to order. This time I saw that Mac Zone was offering a free Airport Extreme base station so I placed my order as it saved me from buying a separate wireless solution. I also ordered my memory upgrade, planning to install it myself. It was ahead of the order rush and got it for $93, not too bad. Although I am sure others found it cheaper.

So the waiting game began again. Weeks past and still more people were receiving their orders. I called almost everyday. The rep was always kind and never told me any stories. Finally almost a month later I received the email that declared my PB had been shipped! I tried to stay calm and focus on my work. Being a Web designer using an iBook Graphite SE made it very hard not to think about what life would be like with my new PB 17?!

The next day my delivery arrived and my horror story begins. It was a dark and rainy day and the delivery guy pulled up in front of my home. As he is walking up the walk he trips and falls, slamming my new PB into the pavement. He gets ups, picks up the box which is now drenched. The box falls apart in his hands and the Apple box crashes to the pavement. I realize that I am clenching my hands so hard that my nails have pierced my palms and my face is pressed against the glass of my front door. The guy comes to the door asks me to sign and hands me the soggy box and the Apple box. He looks down at my hands and says, ?Dude, your bleeding!? I lost it and flew into a rage. I swing my fist to hit him and he grabs the Apple box with the PB to defend himself. I punch the box so hard that it goes through the wet cardboard, styrofoam, and nails the PB!

The guy drops the box and runs to his van. I picked up the box and went into the house. I opened the box. I had lost all my enthusiasm and could only focus on the loss of a huge investment. The PB was dented on the bottom but otherwise seemed OK. I powered it up and heard a grinding noise, yet it booted. When I finished the registration process I shut it down and plugged it in to charge. That was when I noticed the smoke rolling from the power port. I quickly unplugged it and opened the PB. There was a strange grease all over the palm rest and a vertical line on the monitor. I also heard a hissing sound from the keys and approximately 20 dead pixels peppered the screen. In anguish I fell to my knees and screamed a primal scream not heard since man was kicked out of Paradise. I then woke and found myself in my own bed. What a nightmare! My PB arrived and is perfect. It is more than I ever hoped for! If you are still waiting be patient! If you are thinking of switching, what are you waiting for? Every good thing everyone has said is true! Damn the critics and cynics! Now I need to get to work.

That is mint. I read it too quickly earlier on in the evening and thought you were a real whacko. Then I read it was a dream. hehe. It's almost like A Christmas Carol, but with a Mac twist...

Completely unbelievable because:

-Styrofoam doesn't get soggy being in the rain for ten seconds.

-Your nails pierced your hands?

-You punched through a styrofoam box covered in cardboard and dented a reinforced aluminium machine? Are you Tyson drinking teststerone squeezed from Godzilla's balls?

-You use an iBook SE for graphics?

OK, enough complaining from me. It was a fun read.

Yes I did and still own it. I originally bought it to write with. I used it for a year and a half while I waited for the Powerbook I wanted. It was very very difficult but I designed 3 web sites last year and several graphic projects all on a clamshell iBook SE. The only problem was that I had to use our writers Windoze computer to check how IE looked and how the sites looked on a larger screen and a graphic artist friend occasionaly checked my color choices. It wasn't easy but it was possible. and it allowed me to make money without any startup investment.
