I bought my iBook back in September. I'm a CS student, so I use my laptop for compiling code, that being as it is, I've turned off all of the power-saving functions in the laptop, yielding max performance while unplugged. When I first got my iBook, the battery would last around 2.5 hours with all power-saving crap off, today, it lasts only one-hour. I would just take it into a local mac store, but they want it for two full days, being that my laptop is my only computer, and I've got mass homework / labs / programs to do, I only want to take it in if it looks like AppleCare will indeed replace the battery. So, what do you guys think? Think Apple will cover it?

I dunno.

My iBook battery died after 7 months. I went back to the Gravis shop, they first wanted to send the complete iBook in, later they agreed to send only the battery back. Only 2 days later a new battery arrived.

Still haven't bought AppleCare...

If it helps, your iBook will run without a battery on mains just fine.
I'm-a trying to wonder, wonder, wonder why you, wonder, wonder why you act so.

some battery replacement discussion at

http://forums.macnn.com/showthread.p...hreadid=155365

My wife's iBook battery wouldn't hold a charge, and Apple sent a new battery without wanting the whole laptop. It was under Applecare.

I called Apple about the same problem they told me I had to take it in to an authorized service center (we don’t have any Apple stores in Canada). When I called the service center they said at least a 4-day wait, they said they want to test it first to make sure that it is the battery and not something else. I was surprised at first too when they wanted me to take it in I’ve read most users from the forum just had a replacement sent to them.

Edit…

Apple will replace just about anything that is "deemed" a manufactures defect including the battery. If you are under the 1 year warranty or have purchased Apple Care.

just to let you know, batteries are considered a "consumeable" and are not replaced under warranty if worn out. If it fails, that's another thing. Be careful how you word your request, call applecare, and you might get another battery.
