Er...got my 17" today and noticed that there was an OS9 system folder on the drive. Slightly confused I went to system preferences to see if classic was installed. I was amazed, it was. I promptly started up classic and loaded up some OS9 apps. They worked.

I was a little suprised as I was sure that it was not possible to load OS9 apps on the Albook???

So, do I have some kind of freakish Al or is this normal. more to the point, what's the best way to get rid of it? Can I just delete OS9 system folder and OS9 applications folder?

Thanks

It is perfectly normal. All current Macs running OS X can launch Classic (OS 9) apps, what the new AlBooks can not do is boot from OS 9.

Yeah, when reading all the posts about os9 not bootable on the new powerbooks, I got a bit confused about os9 apps working/not working. Finding out they did work made me very happy! Almost sold all my os9 apps!

Yeppers, not being able to "boot" into OS 9 certainly doesn't mean you can't run OS 9 apps. through "Classic". Pretty nifty feature actually...I just wonder how long Classic will continue to be included in OS X, and if 10.3 will have it.

What's really amazing is that Classic loads in about 5 seconds on my AlBook, whereas on my Pismo it took about 60 seconds. That is quite an improvement!
