Hi,
I was trying to get my T68i to work with my 17" powerbook today. My local network provider doesn't provide GRPS support, so I'd like to use the phone as a dial-up modem (the phone would dial up my ISP). I think I have everything set up properly - the devices are properly 'paired', I have my Earthlink account info set up into both the phone and the PowerBook (using Bluetooth Setup Assistant), and I have Bluetooth selected in Internet Connect. When I hit 'Connect', the PowerBook attempts to dial, and after about three seconds, a window comes on the phone 'Attempting to dial XXX'. After a few seconds, the window disappears, and the Internet Connect status says 'Disconnecting...'. Then an error box pops up saying 'No Carrier'. It's like the powerbook isn't waiting long enough or something.
I've checked all of the settings, and everything seems OK. BTW, I can use iSync successfully and transfer files. I have also set up the phone on my Palm Tungsten T for use as a modem, and the exact same thing happens, so I'm fairly sure the problem is in the phone.
Help is greatly appreciated.

Yeah. Both sides said 'Pairing Successful'.
The message I get when I try to connect on both the PowerBook and the Palm, is,
No carrier detected. Please check phone line connection and try again.
Then the window that tells the status of the connection on the phone disappears.

It sounds like you may need to update your modem scripts for the T68i. The "No carrier" error sounds like, while the P'book may be able to see the phone, it can't "pick up" per say to dial the number to your ISP. I can't think of the web sites off the top of my head that have the updated modem scripts for the T68i, but if you check out 'www.powerpage.org' and do a search for "T68i" or "bluetooth", you should be able to find something there that will help you.

you need to set up an account on the phone's 'Data Communications' options. you can select between GPRS connection or a GSM (dial-up connection)
but if you pick dial-up/GSM, then your provider need to support CSD or HSCSD
but afaik, most providers today are switching to GPRS. and GPRS is much faster too...u might wanna consider getting it..

First off, if you have AT&T, you can fuggetaboutit. You cannot use dial-up using your AT&T T68i as a modem. AT&T simply doesn't allow it (or at least their data transfer protocol plain doesn't support it). If you try it, it will dial, connect, and immediately disconnect for some reason. Unfortunately, only GPRS is allowed and only GPRS will work. Thus with AT&T T68i's you cannot make use of your unlimited minutes to connect to the internet. Instead, you have to use your monthly data allotment (in KB/MB's) based on what mMode service plan you have chosen. This sucks because even the largest $19.99 mMode plan only allows a whopping 8MB of data plus 6/10 cent per KB over. Oh well. If you want more info on connecting with GPRS, check out these intructions: http://www.technopsychology.com/t68/...tructions.html
If you have a Cingular T68 however, dial-up using your minutes is possible. I'm not sure how to do it because I don't own one, but there's good instructions somewhere if you do a search. As for T-mobile and other T68i's, I have no idea.

Have you got "data call service" activated? Not all phone service providers do that automatically. Call them and find out, if not make them activate it for your account.

What modem script did you select in the Network Preference Pane?
The one it defaults to when pairing up the phone and the one mentioned on Apple's tech support document for configuring the two is incorrect. I think the Ericsson T39 9.6 is the one to use for regular GSM.
I spent over an hour on the phone with Apple support befor they suggested this. Now it works for me.

Thanks for the hints everyone. I think that the problem is that my provider won't alllow data calls.
I set up the built-in email client to try and get my mail by dialing up and logging into my account, but when it attempts to dial, it has the exact same problem. About two seconds into the process, it fails with a 'No Carrier' error.
So, the problem is not within the bluetooth connection, it is in the dialing process itself. It seems to me that if my provider didn't allow this, it would fail AFTER dialing (as mentioned above). What do you think?
I'm going to try calling them. They don't carry the T68i or provide support for it (I had to order the 'unlocked' version and add the SIM card), so I think they'll just say that it's not supported, sorry. But I'll see.
