I have a dual USB 700mhz ibook with 384Mb Ram, OS X.2.4 and OS 9.2.1 on separate partition on the same Hard Drive.
What is happening is that the after using OSX for a few minutes the screen changes with the right side of the screen beginning to appear on the left side and/or the screen colour changes every second or so to a darker colour usually darker blues until the desktop dissapears. Using the trackpad or keyboard does nothing. I restarted several times and eventually it went past the log in screen (it did the smae thing twice at the login), I repaired disk permissions but it locked up again when this was done. I also tried fsck -y holding down Command+S at start-up. This said that the Hard Disk appeared to be okay.
I then restarted in OS 9 and that seemed to work for a while and then loads of squares (a very pixelated screen) appeared. Also applications freeze then start again and freeze again.
This is hard to explain but I hope someone has an idea what I mean and has some ideas I could try?
I have apple care so should I use it? Does it sound like a hardware or software problem?
Thanks very much in advance!

as both osx and 9 are affected, it is most definitely a hardware problem. let apple take care of it.

my guess is it could be ram. try running with just the built in ram, perhaps.
