Hi,

I'm just curious as to how often Apple processes orders. I've placed my order for the 17" on Saturday (04/12) and I checked just now...it still says 'open'

At the screen where you actually click "Check Out" it says that Apple is currently taking 3-5 weeks to ship the 17". Your order will probably be open until just before they get ready to ship it.

Since I ordered via a once-a-life-time 20% ADC discount, I have no other choices! I don't mind the wait though...

Priority of a discount order is usually lower than ordinary order. That's only reason I have in mind. I ordered on Febraray 4th and I am still waiting. My OOB was postponed from Apr. 2th to May 7th. I have contacted ADC by email and by phone several times. They insist to explaining a good reason to delay the shipping.

You may wait for more than one month from now on.

It'll say "Open" 'til the moment it ships out. I'd count on it shipping approx. a week earlier than the date that it gives you, possibly earlier now that more & more orders are getting filled daily...hope it comes soon for you!

In most cases, yes. In Apple's case, not really. Apple shows no rhyme nor reason to the order in which they ship their products out. I got my ADC Discounted 17" PB before some FULL PRICE praying customers that ordered the afternoon of Jan. 7th, 2003.

Noooo kidding! I waited for a good bit over a month and it seemed like an eternity!!! The moment your PB ships your life completely stops & revolves around that tracking number, trust me. And when it arrives get ready to cancel all plans including eating, sleeping, and talking.

Good luck with the wait. From my experience, it will say open until it ships. Open doesn't mean Unprocessed. Although I think Apple recently revamped it's ordering/customer fulfillment system, so my information may not be accurate.
