Anyone purchased a PB in the US and went to pick it up and bring it back into Canada -- without claiming it?

Uhm, How did it go?

Oh, also -- does anyone in TO know where to get those green cards that you are supposed to write the products you are bringing across the border with you from Canada to the US? What's on these cards is supposed to be considered proof that what you are bringing across isn't new? Know what I mean?

Not a good idea. You could get dinged pretty hard, unless you're prepared to throw away your receipt, your box, your manuals, and your install discs. And even then, they may not believe you.

Also the green cards are supposed to be stamped before you leave. (You're show them the items you're taking.)

The box, manuals, disks, receipt, etc wouldn't be coming with me. I'll be mailing those up separately. It'll just be the laptop and the power supply.

Is it really worth trying to pull off??? Laptops and computer parts are duty free. All you'd have to pay is PST and GST, which is a good deal seeing as macs can be found for far less in the States.

Heck, I've even thought of becoming an importer as the resale is so obscene here in Canada.

???

Prices here in Toronto are comparable to US mail order... maybe a few percent higher at most. And they're definitely cheaper than the Apple store. eg. I paid $150 less for my TiBook at the local retail store than the Apple Store would have charged. Plus Apple would have charged me even more, because of shipping (which obviously I wouldn't need to pay at the local store).

The only thing that dings you the GST/PST, but if you're in Alberta you don't even have to pay PST.

I'm comparing my prices to ADC prices. US prices, after conversion to CAD and w/o GST&PST is the same price as CAD ADC prices w/GST&PST.

EMJ wasn't getting any joy with Apple on a shipment which really sucks for EMJ as they are Apple's largest distributer in Canada. I couldn't deal with the unknown ETAs so I found one in the US.

It's already been delivered to my Uncle's office. Now, all I need to do is go pick it up.

Happy Easter!

Where can I get information on these green cards? Is that what they are really called? If nothing else, I'm interested in the process that's involved in getting them filled out.

The local airport customs office should have them. Dunno about the border offices.

1) Fill out card.
2) Take items and card to office.
3) They stamp it after they look at the items.

That's it.
