I have a box (10) of Memorex CD-RW 700MB x4 speed which I have tried to use on my PB and iMac.

Everytime I insert a blank disc I get the same problem. The macs do not give me the pop up box that lets me name the disc, instead the disc seems to keep spinning in the drive and is never recognised.

This also hangs the finder so that I can't do anything, like eject the disc. It hangs the machine so badly that the only way to get the blank out is to reboot via the on / off button. I then have to hold down the eject key during the rebot so that the disc is ejected.

I have not had a problem with CD-RW before but I think they where 650MB discs.

Should these work ? Could it be a duff box of discs ? Any other ideas ?

Thanks.

Hmm, well considering this is happening on multiple Macs, I'm almost positive it's just because the drives don't like Memorex media, sadly. I'd almost bet that's the culprit, as Mac optical drives tend to be picky about the media it'll write to. Your case isn't the first I've ever heard of this happening too, is there any other brands of CD-RW's you can get your hands on to test them? It's highly unlikely both drives are faulty, and I'd bet it's just the Memorex media.

I wondered if it was the 700MB vs 650MB.

Although I have just tried another disc from the box and it seems to be OK. No problems when inserted, just going to burn it now.

I have updated to 10.2.5 since the last attempt, maybe that made a difference.

The burn failed at the end, and the disc is not readable by the machine.

It looks like a black disc when I insert it.

Seems like I need to buy a new box of discs.

I know the drive is OK, as I burn CD's and DVD's no problem.
