My mom's ibook recently started being a Bastard.

first the battery died basically..and rendered itself useless...now when its plugged in and its on and its shut it goes to sleep. As soon as the light starts pulsing, it then wakes itself up, then it takes about 30 seconds then goes back to sleep...rinse, repeat. It's annoying does anyone know how to fix it?
thanks in advanced

It's possible that when you close the lid, one of the keys gets pressed down. That would cause it to wake from sleep, the closed lid would put it back to sleep, the pressed key would wake it up again, and so on.
If you've installed an Airport card, RAM, etc lately, check that the keyboard is seated properly and there are no bulges or anything.
There are probably a few possible causes, but this is a good place to start.

Is it a clamshell or a 500mhz later model? I had this happen with both my sisters 300 clamshell and my 366 clamshell. I took it into Apple and they just shook their heads. Couldn't figure out what caused it. If you put it to sleep with the menu it, then closed the lid it would work fine.

Mine used to do this and then I found out that the keyboard wasnt snapped into place. Check to make sure that the keyboard is flush and that the two latches are snapped into place.

This probably is the prob, mine started doing this after I put an airport card in, then I noticed the keyboard on the left wasn't clipped.....works fine now.
