Well, I'm a Newbie/Switcher although I did have the dainty iBook once (many years ago) I'm switching over yet again. For the past weeks I've been reading the threads all about the 17" and decided to order one. God! Then I read how long it was takeing to get them! Here's my story.

I ordered by 17" from Powermax. That was on Thursday. Today is Friday. It will here on Tuesday and here's the thing..., I live in South Africa!! As far as I'm concerned that's impressive because not even folk in the UK are getting them that fast.

So, if anyone wants a real good contact, no, excellent contact: get hold of Gary Meads at PowerMax. This guy answered every Newbie/Switcher question I had. He assisted me with MS Office, the Firwire cable etc and honestly, made my purchase a pleasure. On top of this, I did a wire transfer from Cape to PowerMax' US Bank account. I had my doubts. I can even say I was a bit hesitant releasing so much money (on the exchange rate) via a bank transfer to a company that I had never dealt with but, sure as hell, I received my email last night (our time) indicating that my 17" Baby had been shipped.

Wow, great recommendation! Congratulations on your new purchase. I know if I was in your shoes, though, that I'd be sitting on pins & needles in anticipation of Tuesday... Good luck!

Cool. Good luck with your new 'book, and congratulations on getting ahold of one. I can't believe that people still don't have them in large quantities.

I ordered mine from Power Max also. I placed the order Tuesday evening and had it in my hands Thursday morning. I was tired of MacConnection having no idea when they would send it me and being rude every time I asked for any details at all. Maiya was very helpful, even calling me back when there was a problem with my credit card. I've ordered from places where they just canceled your order without telling you when your card was declined because they got your address wrong. Anyway, Power Max is a class act. I'll never order from anyone else unless I absolutely have to.

Congrats! Man I feel really blessed to know that Power Max is that good, they are based right where I live. I think I'll "switch" to them.

Yes, I was totally impressed with PowerMax. They have my complete confidence and ANYTHING I ever order for the Mac again, I'll do through them. Just goes to show what a little customer care can yield. My recomendations absolute!

I, too, cancelled my Big Al order from MacConfoundit a few weeks ago, hearing that PowerMax had units in stock. I called them and Gary got me taken care of in minutes. Had my machines the next day, with the RAM upgrade already installed. He told me they're a smaller, newer Apple reseller and they're really focused on customer service. From all of your posts, I'd say that's an understatement.

They are definitely my new reseller of choice.

Gotta agree on the Powermax issue. I ordered my 17" from them. It was my fourth Mac from Powermax. My guy, Joe, has sold every one to me. That's 2 years worth and he's still there! That in itself is amazing to me considering I had a new acct. rep everytime I called elsewhere.

I encourage more people to order from this place. They know their stuff and are always good to me.

Wow, that truly does speak a great deal for their reputation! PowerMax needs some more recognition, it's like MacConnection and such are always plastered on Apple's Hot Deals site but PowerMax isn't given the credit they deserve...at any rate, glad to hear you guys found such a great place to order from!

Hello Leslie,

I live not very far away from you, in Reunion island [near Mauritius] and also got my 12" SUperdrive and TiBook from Gary at Powermax.
Service at Powermax is very efficient and deliveries take usually 4 working days with them. That's amazing when you know that South Africa,as well as my island are not so close from the US

Well, let's not get too excited! I haven't received my PowerBook yet. That's only on Tuesday..., I hope! But hey, I just thought I'd let you know: the service was indeed great.
