im getting a laptop, probabaly a mac cause i need to use fcp and video editing tools but im a bit skeptical
how does a powerbook g4 compare with say a sony viao 2.4 in terms or speed whilst using rendering. is there a big gap??

FCP only works on a mac, so does OS X, so there's only one choice...
If you are doing any serious editing, do like everyone else, enjoy the operating system, and set it to render overnight, or while you are away, then the speed doesn't really matter.

If you want raw speed do not get a PB, get yourself a desktop.

YEP IF YOU REALLY WANT SPEED GET A POWERMAC THE ONLY WAY TO GO. UNLESS YOUR TRAVELING ALOT< AND NEED TO BE ON THE GO.
With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......:)
